Revenue seize drugs valued at over €40,000 in Athlone

Revenue officers last week seized a package containing over €40,000 worth of illegal drugs in Athlone.

The drugs seizure happened on Wednesday last (June 1), while officers were examining parcels at an Athlone premises.

The package that was intercepted contained over 2kg of illegal drugs, including herbal cannabis and cannabis resin.

The drugs were concealed in a parcel that originated in Italy and was destined for an address in Dublin.

Revenue said investigations were ongoing in relation to the incident.

These seizures are part of its ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs and the shadow economy.
