Three Cavan students scoop Texaco art prizes
Three Cavan students have won top prizes in this year’s 68th Texaco Children’s Art Competition.
Aodhán Collins (17), from St. Clare's College, Ballyjamesduff; Madeleine Creighton (8) from Cabra Central National School, Kingscourt; and Adam Wiercioch Chinatamunnee (5), a pupil at St. Patrick's N.S., Loch Gowna were all winners of Special Merit Awards.
Final adjudicator, Professor Gary Granville said all of these artworks “displayed high levels of skill and creativity.”
The Texaco Children’s Art Competition has been running in Ireland since 1955 and gives a platform on which young artists from Cavan and counties throughout Ireland to have their talents recognised and their creativity commended.
From May 31 to June 30, Belfast’s Royal Ulster Academy of Arts is hosting an exhibition of the top 126 winning paintings in this year’s competition. Admission is free and the Academy is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9am-5pm.
