Funding announced for local heritage sites
Minister Malcolm Noonan visited historical sites in Cavan in December.
Historical sites in Cavan are to share in funding of almost €128,000.
The successful local heritage projects were announced by Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform Malcolm Noonan.
Drumlane Abbey, Milltown is to receive the most in Cavan with a total of €84,698.50.
St Mogue’s Island, outside of Bawnboy is receiving €15,473.40, Moneygashel Cashel, south-west of Blacklion is to get €14,491.86.
Meanwhile, Moybologue Graveyard, south of Bailieborough, which Minister Noonan visited in December is to receive €13,139.50.
The 2022 Community Monuments Fund is designed to support the protection and conservation of sites with a historical significance.
There's been a welcome for the funding, with local Minister Heather Humphreys stressing the importance of protecting historical sites.
“As a former Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage, I know how vital it is to invest in protecting our historical structures around the country.
“The projects being supported in Cavan have huge historical and archaeological significance and I really welcome this funding news today.”
