Department considering new classrooms for St Mogue's
The school is in need of extra space.
The Department of Education is considering an application for additional classroom accommodation at St Mogue's College.
The Bawnboy secondary school is in need of extra classrooms, with plans also to develop special education facilities.
CMETB submitted what's described as "a very detailed application" to the Department of Education recently.
Local TD Brendan Smith says this is now being processed by the Department and its Minister Norma Foley.
The Fianna Fáil Deputy says the extra accommodation is much needed:
“I know that a very detailed application has been submitted by the ETB and, recently, I emphasised again to Minister Foley the need to have this application approved at the earliest possible date.
"The application was originally submitted by Cavan/Monaghan Education and Training Board and the Minister stated that the purpose of the Additional School Accommodation scheme is to ensure that essential mainstream classroom and Special Education Needs accommodation is available to cater for pupils enrolled each year where the need cannot be met by the school’s existing accommodation."
Extra accommodation was also approved for St Bricin's College in Belturbet in January.
Eight new classrooms are planned for the school, made up of temporary, modular buildings.
