Substantial drop in numbers waiting for social housing
The figures were released today by the Department of Housing.
Cavan has seen a 46% reduction in the numbers on its social housing waiting list, according to the Department of Housing.
Figures released today show 414 people were on the list last year, down from 761 in 2016. Last year's figure represents households on the list as of November 17.
This figure is down 170, or 29%, from the 584 households recorded in 2020.
The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage Darragh O’Brien has welcomed the figures published in the 2021 Summary of Social Housing Assessments (SSHA).
Nationally, 59,247 households were assessed as being qualified for social housing support as of 17 November 2021, down 2,633 (4.3%) from 61,880 households on 2 November 2020. This figure is a reduction of 32,353 (35.3%) since 2016.
