Consultation on CDP changes set to begin
Thanks Input of elected members and staff recognised
Cavan County Council will be holding a number of public consultation events throughout the county in order to highlight material amendments to the draft County Development Plan (CDP) approved by local councillors at the Hotel Kilmore on Valentine’s Day.
Incorporating a Local Area Plan for Cavan Town for the period 2022-2028, the draft CDP is currently approaching phase three of the overall process, which began with the publication of a Strategic Issues paper back in Summer 2020.
Following the second stage of public consultation, the council received 142 submissions on the 300-page plus draft plan. An additional 29 motions for debate were submitted by elected members when the Chief Executive Tommy Ryan’s report on the draft CDP came up for discussion last week.
Eight mapping errors were also addressed at that meeting, and 224 recommendations from Mr Ryan considered.
All rezoning issues required a vote, as did a change to how the voting process normally proceeds on foot of a suggestion by Independent Councillor Shane P O’Reilly.
The Mullagh based elected representative asked for a departure from the standard roll-call vote, based on alphabetisation, starting with Fine Gael’s Madeleine Argue, next Winston Bennett, then Carmel Brady and so forth.
The suggestion required a suspension of standing orders to allow the change, which was carried.
Following the completion of stage three (Publication of Material Amendments for Public Consultation) the draft CDP will go before elected members once again for full adoption, expected in the Summer.
After the February meeting, Cathaoirleach, Clifford Kelly and chief executive, Tommy Ryan, thanked councillors and council staff alike for their support, work and engagement in the process.
