Shane returns for French clash
A rising rugby star with strong local connection returns to international action this weekend. Bornacoola's Shane Mallon has once again been selected to take the number 11 slot in Richie Murphy's side.
Last week Shane donned the green to play when Ireland clashed with Wales in Musgrave Park in the Six Nations International opener.
Four changes in personnel were made to the starting XV from last weekend’s bonus point win Cork, but Shane holds his position for the second round trip.
Stade Maurice David is the venue for the U20's encounter with France this Friday (February 11) with kick-off at 9pm local time (8pm Irish time).
Earlier this year Shane was selected as part of the Ireland Rugby 7s Development Squad, and was picked up to to play in this years U20 6 Nations campaign.
The talented 11 has strong Cavan connections as his mother Mary is sister of Kieran Callaghan, the chairman of Cavan GAA's County Board.
Shane played a starring role’s 53-5 win over Wales. He was instrumental in the build up to a second-half try by Ulster back row forward James McNabney.
Commenting ahead of the top of the table clash Richie Murphy said: “We were pleased with the performance and result in round one, but we’ve had to turn the page quickly ahead of a big challenge on Friday night. The players acquitted themselves well last week and we have been able to focus on the areas of our game that need refinement this week. There is no greater test than going away to France and the group are excited about that challenge.”
