In a statement issued to The Anglo-Celt, the ETB confirmed he has been recommended for appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the National Council for Special Education (NCSE). It's following an application process run by the Public Appointments Service.
The NCSE has approved his appointment and has written to the Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion, Josepha Madigan T.D., and the Minister for Education Norma Foley T.D.
The NCSE was set up to improve the delivery of education services to persons with special educational needs arising from disabilities with particular emphasis on children.

Speaking to CMETB Board Members and Staff John Kearney said:
"This appointment will enable me to bring unique CMETB insights on education delivery excellence honed by you all to the national setting. While looking forward to the new professional challenge, I am finding it difficult to be leaving CMETB as my time here has kept me inspired over the years by the strategic value that CMETB brings to Counties Cavan and Monaghan."
He thanked staff for their support and praised the ongoing work within the organisation:
"It has been a privilege to work with you as Chief Executive. I thank you most sincerely for your support and commend you all on the outstanding contribution that you are making.
"It remains for me to wish you and CMETB continued success for the future, and I look forward to working with you in my new role."
It's not clear when John Kearney will leave CMETB but the Celt has queried this with the organisation.
