Brady: ‘It’s nice to be back winning games again’
Cavan defender Killian Brady says it’s “nice to be back winning games” but admitted that while the first-half performance against Wexford was very good, the second was disappointing.
“Looking at our targets, in the first half I don’t think we missed one of them. Shorts to scores, everything was brilliant. We kind of new with the elements there was always going to be a push on them in the second half and it did come,” stated Brady.
“I suppose with the lead we had, we kind of did rest on it a small bit, we got a little too comfortable in possession. If you make sloppy mistakes, no matter what division you’re playing in, you’re going to get punished. That’s what we’ll be looking at, looking at ourselves moreso than Wexford for the next day.
“It’s funny even when you’re preparing for these games, when you’re playing Division 1 and 2 teams, you’ve so many clips there on the opposition and you’re so well prepared. When you come down to Division 3 and 4, you don’t have as much material to study to get a grasp of the lads you’re playing.
“You can only prepare so much for the opposition at the same time. We did have a good focus on ourselves coming in, we knew if we hit our targets we were going to be there or thereabouts. But as I say, when you turn over the ball the way we did in the second half, you’re going to get punished.
“But look, job done at the same time. We’re two from two. We kind of got out of the habit of winning games there the last couple of years so it’s s nice feeling to be winning again.”
From the forwards right back, there is a notable work-rate about Cavan in recent matches.
“The pressure up the field is a massive help for us inside and that’s something we’ve worked on from the beginning of the year. It’s great when you’re inside and there’s pressure on the ball coming in, it makes our job a hell of a lot easier,” said ‘the Gunner’.
“I was surprised at half-time when I saw they had only six or eight attacks but again, with the elements in the second half, they were always going to have a few more opportunities. We’d be happy with our first-half performance but the second half, definitely not good enough.”
Brady could have been in for a goal late on but teammate Martin Reilly opted to take a point. Killian, better known for his defensive play rather than his prowess in front of goal, laughed: “I just smiled at him and he had the same smile over at me, I think he was better off maybe taking the point! I said to him I had the corner picked out but I think he was better off to pop it over alright, yeah.”
