Gardaí issue 'cold caller' warning
It's the latest form of scam to hit the region.
Gardaí have issued a warning to local householders after a local man fell victim to “cold callers”.
In a message Gardaí have said the elderly man employed the cold callers after they called to his home offering to carry out work.
They did more work than had been agreed and subsequently demanded more money from the householder. Gardaí say he “had no choice but to pay for the work that was done”.
They’ve issued advice to people in the region, urging them to not employ any cold callers “as some can intimidate and charge exorbitant prices for shoddy work”. Gardaí have said more vulnerable people are particularly prone to falling victim to such scams.
They have issued the following advice to householders across Cavan:
Don't open your door before you know who is at the door and what their business is, always ask for ID, don't employ "cold callers", never leave anybody unattended at your front door and always report suspicious callers to your local Garda Station.
