Brady announces retirement

The seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Tom Brady is to retire after 22 NFL seasons.

The 44-year-old won a record seven champion rings last year with Tampa Bay after taking six in 20 years with the New England Patriots. ESPN and the NFL Network reported that this is Brady's last season in the NFL.

In February of last year Cavan County Council members extended an invitation to the captain and quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following his win in Super Bowl LV.

Cllr Clifford Kelly made the initial invitation to the history maker at a meeting of the local authority.

At that meeting Cllr Brendan Fay claimed the quarterback as a relative. “He’s a sixth or seventh cousin,” he told members at the meeting.

Cllr Fay said at one point Brady’s father was promised land in Cavan, but did not take up the offer. “What a difference that would have made to Tom Brady’s life is a matter for speculation,” the Belturbet elected representatives said.
