Gardaí warn of latest scam

Gardaí have issued another warning about scam text messages and have urged people to be wary of who is contacting them.

Warnings are regularly issued about scam texts and emails purporting to be from a person’s bank, Revenue or other organisations with links contained in them.

People have fallen victim as when the link is clicked, some automatically download viruses or other malware, while others take the person to a website designed to look like a realistic website for the organisation.

Gardaí have previously said people have been conned out of money or their personal details due to the realistic appearance of the sites or messages.

Local Gardaí have this week issued another warning on social media. “The scam texts just keep on coming”, they say.

They’ve urged people to “never click on these links and never provide your personal details. Always ignore and delete any texts of this nature”.
