North-South Interconnector review 'well advanced'
Sen Gallagher says people are “adamant” network should “not be overground”
An independent review of the proposed North-South Interconnector project, commissioned by Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications Eamon Ryan TD, is expected to be “completed shortly” according to Senator Robbie Gallagher.
Senator Gallagher was quoting the Minister who also said work on the review is “well advanced” at present.
An Taoiseach Michael Martin sanctioned the independent review of how the North South Interconnector (NSI) project will be delivered after a direct question was tabled by Sen Gallagher when addressing a virtually-held Fianna Fail parliamentary party meeting in March last year.
He was supported in his line of questioning by Chair of Fianna Fail parliamentary party, Cavan-Monaghan TD, Brendan Smith.
They sought to have the review established on behalf of local campaign groups and landowners who have opposed the proposed network of pylons.
Sen Gallagher says many people are “adamant” that the network should “not be overground” because of the health dangers and “what it is going to do in communities as well”.
