Dunne to take charge of JFC hopefuls Drumlane
GAA news
Drumlane have signalled their intent for the 2022 season with the appointment of former Cavan forward Martin Dunne as their new team manager.
The Sons of O’Connell started last season under the guidance of Declan Maguire but the two parted company during the year and Dunne now steps in. The Cavan Gaels clubman has previous experience with Mountnugent and will be hoping to steer the Milltown men to the Sean Leddy Cup, which they last won in 2018.
While they were relegated following an injury crisis at the wrong time, Drumlane are regarded as one of the strongest sides in junior ranks, having recently won the ACFL Division 3 title against neighbours Killeshandra, who were intermediate semi-finalists, and ended the year on a high with the U20 Division 2 Championship title.
Elsewhere, Gowna are to retain their management of Fintan Reilly and Dermot McCabe, who led them to the league title and championship final in 2021. Kingscourt Stars have yet to appoint a replacement for Finbar O’Reilly, although former Monaghan star Owen Lennon (Latton) has been linked with the position.
In other news, the widely-mooted transfer of Meath attacker Jordan Morris from Nobber to Kingscourt has yet to be rubber-stamped. Morris, regarded as an outstanding young forward, has very strong Kingscourt links and lives in the area. His father Gary was a stand-out player for the Stars and represented Cavan at minor level.
