Crime Prevention Accreditation Ceremony in Monaghan

An Garda Síochána’s Crime Prevention Ambassadors Programme in partnership with Ireland’s Age Friendly Cities and Counties Programme, are hosting a Crime Prevention Accreditation Ceremony at 1.30pm today at the Creighton Hotel, Clones, Co. Monaghan. At this ceremony over fifty community volunteers who participated in the Crime Prevention Ambassadors Programme, which was piloted in the counties of Cavan, Monaghan and Meath in 2013, will receive certificates of appreciation in recognition of their work and participation in the programme.

The Crime Prevention Ambassador Programme is a partnership pilot programme of An Garda Síochána and the Age Friendly County and Cities Programme supported by Community Alert and Neighbourhood Watch. The program involved selecting and preparing active older people and community representatives as Ambassadors to support older and vulnerable people in their community by delivering crime prevention information to them. The project was specifically designed to empower older persons within the community by working in partnership with An Garda Síochána through local Community Policing Gardaí and Crime Prevention Officers

The Crime Prevention Ambassadors who took part in this pilot programme volunteered their time to disseminate crime prevention messages. The volunteers were sought from existing older people networks or associations, such as Community Alert, Neighbourhood Watch, Ageing Well Network and Older People Fora and groups.
