Welcome for new Chief Superintendent
There were welcomes for the region’s new Chief Superintendent at the recent meeting of Cavan’s Joint Policing Committee.
Alan McGovern was appointed to the Cavan-Monaghan Division in October.
The post had been occupied temporarily since Summer 2020 after the retirement of Chief Superintendent John O’Reilly.
Sligo-Leitrim Chief Aidan Glackin had been covering the role in the interim.
At the December meeting of the JPC, Chair of the committee, Cllr John Paul Feeley, extended welcome to the new Chief Superintendent at his first meeting.
“I’m sure it will be helpful to local Gardaí to have all of the chain of command based locally. It was a huge task for Aidan Glackin to cover his own patch and Cavan-Monaghan too.”
Chief Supt McGovern was previously head of the armed Garda Emergency Response Unit.
He was also attached to the Crime Legal Division at Garda Headquarters with responsibility for the Human Rights Section, Legal Section, Legacy Section, Mutual Assistance and Firearms Policy Unit, after joining the Gardaí from the Defence Forces.
“I look forward to working with you all,” he told the virtual meeting of the JPC.
