Contingency plans in place for local vaccine centres
Storm Barra has forced changes to plans.
The HSE says its Covid-19 vaccination centres in Cavan and Monaghan have put contingency plans in place with the arrival of Storm Barra.
A number of weather warnings remain have taken effect as Storm Barra arrived in Ireland early this morning. It is expected to last into tomorrow night (Wednesday December 8).
Met Éireann has issued Status Red, Orange and Yellow wind warnings for that period and the impact will vary depending on your location.
It says emergency generators in Cavan and Monaghan have been checked as has the fridge alarm system to ensure that vaccines are kept in optimum condition.
The HSE says if people attend for their vaccination today and there is a power outage, generators will kick in with emergency power. Clients already in the building will be vaccinated but the remainder of the clinic may have to be cancelled.
"Public safety is our number one priority at all times", said the HSE in a statement. Updates will be made throughout the day via the CHO1 Twitter account @HSECommHealth1

“Clinics will be operational as normal, unless there is a power cut and the weather warning changes from yellow. We would like to advise anyone getting their vaccinations, be it dose 1, 2 or booster vaccination to please exercise extreme caution making their way to and from the Vaccination Centres in Cavan and Monaghan during Storm Barra. If you are not comfortable attending your appointment you may reschedule your appointment by texting ‘new’ to the vaccination confirmation text message you have received on your mobile. We want to ensure everyone is safe during this weather event.”
