Santa Claus is coming...
The spirit of Christmas is beginning to take hold of Arva as preparations are in place for a special visitor to call to switch on the festive lights.
This year that honour falls to Santa and the town will be illuminated with the festive radiance when he flicks the switch. The lights committee comprises of the members of the Town Development Team: “We have a very hard-working committee and they put in a lot of effort to make sure that that lights are in place every year. There is a lot of organisation involved in it,” a spokesperson said.
Community activist Barney Cully says Arva is a very busy town: “We have undertaken considerable work on St Patrick’s Hall. It is a wonderful resource for the community. We have four CMETB classes per week held there. There are a number of community groups that use the facility all complying with Covid guidelines,” he says.
December 11 is the date the big man is set to visit and Barney says there is great excitement locally: “The Christmas tree is about to be put up. As with last year Santa will call to the school in the area first, he will then turn on the lights,” he tells.
The community had planned a fundraising concert featuring gifted singer songwriter Emma Langford in St Patrick’s Hall on December 10. However due to public health this concerns has been postponed to early in the New Year.
