Cavan receives several nominations for All-Ireland Community and Council Awards
Cavan Civil Defence have been nominated for the All-Ireland Community and Council Awards for Emergency Response Team of the Year.
All Ireland Community and Council Awards, presented by LAMA, celebrates and recognises outstanding work done in local authorities across the country.
Cavan Civil Defence are vying for the prize of Emergency Response Team of the Year in a category against Clare Fire Service and South Dublin Volunteer Centre- Covid-19 Volunteers.
Cavan County Civil Defence was set up in 1950 and is a voluntary organisation which comes under the control of Cavan County Council.
At one stage during the worst of the pandemic last year (mid-June) the local group had clocked up an astonishing 2,500+ hours on over 450 deployments.
The volunteers were heavily involved in transporting patients, delivering food and medicine and, on occasion, flowers, as well as assisting with blood donation, and even delivering an expectant mother to the labour ward!
