Cootehill Councillor elected chair of women's caucus group
A Cootehill Councillor has been elected chair of the Midlands, Northern & Western Women’s Regional Caucus Group.
Fine Gael’s Carmel Brady is the first to hold the position after she was chosen for the post at a meeting of the group last week.
Female Councillors from 13 Councils across the border, midlands and west have formed the group which hopes to support women in entering politics.
The Regional Women’s Caucus also aims to improve the working environment for women Councillors.
Funding was granted by the Department of Local Government for an independent facilitator to co-ordinate the group’s workings.
Councillor Brady has said she’s “delighted and honoured” to be elected to the post.
She said she’s “looking forward” to working with her fellow Councillors in the Caucus. Galway Councillor Herterich Quinn was elected vice-Chair.
