Number receiving PUP in Cavan continues to fall
Almost 1,400 people are still receiving the Pandemic Unemployment Payment in County Cavan.
The latest figures from the Department of Social Protection show 1,388 people were receiving the payment as of today (September 28).
That’s down by 50 people on the same day last week. The number receiving the PUP has been falling steadily as the country has reopened.
7,165 people received payments on February 9 - the highest figure this year.
However, that’s down on the highest figure in Cavan during the whole pandemic. 9,941 got PUP payments on May 4 2020.
Social Protection Minister and local TD Heather Humphreys said “Today’s figures mean that the number of people in receipt of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment has now fallen for 33 consecutive weeks”.
“And since February of this year, the number of young people under the age of 25 who were claiming the PUP has reduced by over 90 per cent”, she commented.
