Former Cootehill Solicitor installed as Judge
The ceremony took place earlier this month.
Former Cootehill Solicitor Brendan O’Reilly has been installed as a District Court Judge.
It was announced in July that the well-known Solicitor was to be appointed to the bench after a decision of the Government.
Son of the late District Judge Aodhagan B. O’Reilly and Dr. Mary O’Reilly, he qualified as a Solicitor in 1992 and has run his own practice in the Cavan town since 1995.
The O’Reilly family were present in the Supreme Court earlier this month when Brendan made his declaration as a Judge of the District Court.
The ritual is carried out before the Chief Justice.
Speaking after the event, Judge O’Reilly said “I was honoured to accept this appointment and was delighted that my wife and children had the opportunity to attend the Supreme Court with me when I made my declaration”.
He will now take up position as a “movable Judge” meaning he will work in districts across the country as needed, without being assigned to one particular area.
