TD criticises lack of invite to Minister's visit
A number of Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil representatives attended.
A local TD has hit out at Higher Education Minister Simon Harris after she wasn’t invited to his visit to Cavan Institute.
Sinn Féin’s Pauline Tully says he ignored “customary protocol” by not notifying all local Oireachtas members to his visit.
The Minister for Higher Education, Innovation and Science met with staff and students from Cavan Institute and CMETB on the visit last week, which was also attended by a number of local representatives.
All were members of Fine Gael or Fianna Fáil.
“A customary protocol of notifying all Oireachtas member when visiting their constituency has been in place for many years”, says Deputy Tully.
In a statement to The Anglo-Celt she said there are a number of issues she would have liked to raise with Minister Harris, including safety measures for staff and students returning to in-person education and north-south co-operation in education.
The Department of Higher Education has been contacted for comment.
