There are off and running in the Breffni Challenge Half marathon.

Breffni Challenge to be staged

The popular 'Breffni 3 County Challenge' will take place on Saturday, September 25, and, in keeping with tradition, the event will commence and finish in the town of Arva.

The fundraiser will bring the participants through three provinces, - Ulster, Connacht and Leinster. For 13 years now, the Breffni Challenge has staged this event, which features a chance to run/walk/cycle, to support cancer charities.

Participants can avail of distances for all abilities, such as the half marathon, 10km route and a 5km family run/walk and also included are the 30km and 100km cycles routes for those who prefer wheels.

After what has been a difficult time during the Covid pandemic, organisers say it is wonderful to see open air events being staged again. The money raised will assist the three charities to carry on their great work.

All the participants will receive a t-shirt and custom-designed medal, and will be treated to great food, live music and a wonderful welcome home party in the Market Square.

All funds raised will go to three excellent charities who are vital in the battle against cancer. They are St Luke’s Oncology Trust, which delivers treatment and care to those who are fighting a huge number of cancers; Breast Cancer Research, based in Galway, which is at the forefront of research into the prevention, treatment and eradication of one of the most prevalent forms of cancer in Ireland; and the Cavan Monaghan Cancer Home Care Association, which provides assistance to cancer patients including the provision of medical equipment, bedding, transport to and from hospital and financial assistance.
