Smyth calls on BOI to retain Kingscourt ATM
Bank to close branches in Kingscourt, Cootehill and Arvagh next month
Fianna Fáil TD Niamh Smyth has expressed deep disappointment that Bank of Irelan plans to decommission the ATM at Kingscourt when the corresponding branch closes in October.
“This is deeply disappointing and most unfair on business people and the local community alike who rely on this service," she said.
While the bank’s partnership with An Post, to facilitate Bank of Ireland customers, is "very much welcome", the Cavan-Monaghan North Meath TD says the onus to "protect and maintain" the post office network in rural communities is now even greater.
"I acknowledge that a few local shops have ATMs inside their premises or offer cashback services, however, these are not available outside of store opening hours. Flexibility and independence in cash withdrawal and other services have been removed from the people of Kingscourt.
"With this in mind, I have written to Bank of Ireland seeking a reversal of this decision in recognition of the community’s loyalty to Bank of Ireland over many years."
