Irish Water says Fore outage is due to burst main
Around three hundred households around Fore and Glenidan have spent the weekend without water as a result of a burst water main.
The damaged main is in the Loughpark area, Irish Water has informed The Westmeath Examiner, adding that the households affected are around Hilltown, Loughpark and Glenidan.
“Customers in these locations may experience low water pressure and/or water outages,” the firm has admitted.
“We understand the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate your patience. We will provide further updates tomorrow,” said Shane Tynan, of Irish Water this evening (Monday).
While the water is out, water is available via mobile tankers at Fore Abbey and at Hilltown junction with Oldcastle Road from Castlepollard.
“Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tankers and to boil the water before consumption as a precautionary measure,” Mr Tynan said, adding that customers should follow HSE and government COVID-19 advice in relation to social distancing when collecting water from tankers.
“Irish Water is encouraging customers to conserve water while these essential repairs are underway,” he continued.
“There are ways to conserve water that will not impact on hygiene or handwashing.
“Simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact on reducing demand on the supply such as not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible.
“We are also reminding people with responsibility for properties that are currently unoccupied to check for leaks and turn off water where it is not required. There are lots more tips on how to conserve water in your home on our website at https://www.water.ie/conservation/”
