Clontibret crash victim named
The youth killed in a crash in Monaghan overnight has been named locally as Brendan óg Duffy. The 19 year old had captained the county’s U20 team to a win over Donegal earlier that evening.
The chairman of the young man's club, Monaghan Harps, paid tribute to Brendan Óg who was killed in a two car crash on the N2 at Clontibret at around 11.20pm last night.
The N2 remains closed at Tullybuck today to allow for Forensic Collision Investigators to conduct an examination of the scene. Local diversions are in place. He was also son of well know principal of Coláiste Oiriall in Monaghan Brendan Duffy.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward. All underage matches in Monaghan have been cancelled as a mark of respect. His team Monaghan Harps have also suspended all activities.
Any road users who were travelling in the area and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí.
