Council put out call for clean up
Cavan community groups are being urged to register for the 2021 Spring Clean. The event is part of National Spring Clean, Ireland’s biggest anti-litter campaign.
It encourages people to take pride in their local environment and take action against litter. Throughout the month communities from across Cavan are encouraged to tackle the problem of litter in local areas and to see the benefits of a litter-free environment.
National Spring Clean is operated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce in partnership with Cavan County Council and supported by the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment. Last year, thousands of clean-ups took place as part of the national Spring Clean campaign and already this year community groups have organised clean ups across County Cavan.
A spokesperson for Cavan County Council said: “Many of us are spending more time in the outdoors these days, and unfortunately that can result in an increase in littering. The An Taisce Spring Clean initiative is a fantastic way for communities to come together - while adhering to public health guidelines - and make a positive change in their locality. An Taisce and Clean Coasts have developed a handy guide to safely organising a Spring Clean during COVID-19, so we would encourage communities to get involved and register today.”
While registrations are now open, participants are asked to keep in mind government guidelines and restrictions and if planning a clean-up before April 5.
The council spokesperson added: “We ask that you only carry out the cleanup with your own household/support bubble and within your 5km radius.”
