Local gardaí investigate spate of burglaries
ALERT Thieves targeting rural houses
Investigations have been launched following a spate of burglaries at properties across the Cavan-Monaghan Garda Division.
Many of the homes targeted by thieves are located in rural areas, and gardaí are urging the public to be vigilant of suspicious activity in their area.
Sightings of unfamiliar vehicles or persons acting suspiciously in a community prompted the issuing of several community text alerts over the past fortnight, with officers seeking to trace the movements of specific vehicles they believe may have been used in the commission of crimes.
They are appealing for members of the public to come forward with information or drivers in the specific areas using dashcam devices to make contact.
Last week Gardaí issued an alert seeking the public’s help in tracing the movements of a silver VW Golf, partial registration 07 CN ***.
The vehicle was seen in Monaghan town area and it’s believed the occupants were involved in a break-in at a house in the Cootehill area.
Gardaí in Cavan Town are appealing for information relating to two domestic burglaries that occurred along the Crosskeys Road towards the end of last week, Friday, February 26.
In one incident the culprits entered a house at approximately 7pm in the Lisreagh area.
A second house was entered in the townland of Annaglough.
Meanwhile, gardaí in Belturbet are investigating a break-in at a house between the Mill Dam to Carrickmore Cross area of Redhills on Thursday, February 18, between 5:30pm and 11pm.
In neighbouring Co Monaghan gardaí are investigating a burglary at a newly built house at Clerran, Castleshane.
Burglars broke into the home and removed a Samsung 8kw heat pump complete with preplumb Joule 200/60 cylinder.
The incident occurred between Thursday-Friday, February 25-26.
Officers also issued an alert seeking information about criminal damage caused to the window of a house in the Mullaghmatt estate, which was smashed.
