Paper Doll making headlines

Nadine Maguire from Highfield Road in Cavan Town is a student at St Bricin’s College in Belturbet.

A young Cavan woman will feature in the 2020 Junk Kouture final on national television tomorrow evening.

Nadine Maguire from Highfield Road in Cavan Town is a student at St Bricin’s College in Belturbet.

Nadine (20) entered the competition with the support of St Bricin’s. Her look is titled ‘Paper Doll’ and the team members are Aaron Maguire and Megan Fitzpatrick.

This is the second time that Nadine has made it to the grand final, having previously been there in 2019 and on stage in the 3 Arena in Dublin before 5,000 people. The 2020 final was cancelled as a result of Covid but has been rescheduled and now, for the first time ever, the grand final, supported by the Creative Ireland Programme, will be televised.

This is a huge achievement for Nadine who is a student in the Green Room Class in St Bricin’s for students with special needs. She is studying the Leaving Certificate Applied syllabus and she loves the Art, Home Economics, English and Maths. Nadine also loves her fashion and make-up.

The different finals were filmed on location around the country and Castle Leslie was the beautiful setting where Nadine showcased her talents before the cameras.

Her magnificent Junk Kouture outfit is made from scores of copies of The Anglo-Celt, according to her mother, Martina Maguire. The competition sees high fashion items made from junk or recycled materials.

“She just loves getting out there on stage and showcasing her outfit,” enthused her proud mum.

One of her favourite singing stars is Nathan Carter and Nadine has met him on a number of occasions. Nadine will celebrate her 21st birthday this September and is hoping to have a party, restrictions permitting.

Nadine will be glued to the TV tomorrow evening (Thursday) to see herself on screen.

Hosted by 2FM presenters Laura Fox and Emma Power, viewers at home can expect an extravaganza of performance, art, design, sustainability and high fashion on the night, as students pull out all the stops to impress an expert panel of judges, including X-Factor judge Louis Walsh and judge of RuPaul’s Drag Race Michelle Visage.

The winner of Junk Kouture 2020 will walk away with €1,000 with a further €2,000 for the winning school. Meanwhile, the RTÉ Audience Choice Award will allow the audience at home to have their say by voting for their favourite design on app.junkkouture.com

The winning design will receive an RTÉ Audience Choice Award trophy and the experience of starring in their very own bespoke social media campaign on RTÉ’s social channels for their design. Voting opens on Monday, February 1, at 9am and closes at 6pm on Friday, February 5.
