The Allisons make a piece of digital history
A Cavan family made history yesterday when their home was the site of the first private connection under the National Broadband Plan.
The Allison family in leafy rural Drumard area outside Cavan town received state of the art connection to the world wide web.
National Broadband Ireland partnered with Belturbet company Arden Broadband to make the connection happen: “We have been providing to the rural market for the last 14 years and now we are looking at what we can do on the fibre side of things. We provide the service better than everyone else, so we are delighted that NBI chose Cavan as the first location for connection, and we particularly delighted we are first company in Cavan to provide this,” Barry Wilson from Arden Broadband said as the first connections are being made in the Killykeen area of the county, before moving to the Butlersbridge and Killeshandra areas.
Arden Broadband are the local 'retail partner’ and act as the link between customers and the new network. The new network covers an 'Intervention Area' not already covered by commercial service providers.
Last week NBI carried out the country’s first connection under the National Broadband Plan in Cork.
