Long awaited garda HQ in Bailieboro moves closer
OPW formally kicks off tender process, Minister Humphreys confirms
The long-awaited new garda station in Bailieborough has moved a step closer.
Local Minister Heather Humphreys has received confirmation that a contract has gone out for tender from the Office of Public Works (OPW) for the three-storey facility.
Minister Humphreys commented: "I was delighted to receive confirmation this evening from my colleague, Minister with responsibility for OPW Patrick O’Donovan, that a contract has now formally gone out for tender for the new garda station in Bailieborough.
“This is really welcome news for the entire community.
“Once operational, Bailieborough will have a first-class garda station that the town deserves.
“I have been in close engagement with Minister O’Donovan and Minister for Justice Helen McEntee and I am really pleased that the process has moved to the next stage."
Minister Humphreys also thanked Minister O’Donovan and the OPW for their work.
"I want to also take this opportunity to pay tribute to our gardaí in Cavan and across the country. They work tirelessly all year round in order to keep our communities safe.
“This was particularly the case during Covid as our gardaí played a crucial role on the front line."
The Cavan Monaghan Fine Gael TD said she would continue to keep in close contact with Ministers O’Donovan and McEntee to ensure the new station in Bailieborough is operational as soon as possible.
