Council extends Christmas Parking to boost business
Cavan County Council is making off-street parking available for free in Cavan Town throughout December in an effort to support local businesses during the festive period.
The period of free off-street parking, available in the multi-storey car park at Townparks in Cavan Town Centre, has been extended this year in recognition of the difficult year faced by businesses.
Director of Services for Transportation, Environment and Water Services, Paddy Connaughton, said the move was designed to allow local business to make the most of the run-up to Christmas following the end of the six-week Level Five public health restrictions.
“By extending the period of free off-street parking, we hope to provide an added incentive to the people of Cavan to shop locally this Christmas,” said Mr Connaughton, “This year, more than ever, it’s vitally important that we all support our local businesses wherever we can. These businesses are the lifeblood of our community, and Cavan County Council is committed to supporting them through this difficult period”.
In order to ensure that access to parking spaces in the town centre is freely available over the Christmas period, a two-hour time limit will continue to apply to on-street parking throughout December. Charges will in place for on-street parking as normal with the exception of the period from 24th – 28th December and 1st January, 2021. Parking in all car parks other than the multi-storey car parks will also be free from Saturday, 12th December until New Year’s Day, inclusive.
This Christmas, Cavan County Council and Local Enterprise Office, Cavan are supporting the #LookforLocal campaign, which encourages consumers to seek out products and services from businesses in their local area.
By supporting local businesses, we are all supporting jobs in our local communities too. In 2020, an additional 143 Cavan businesses have availed of the Trading Online Voucher Scheme through Local Enterprise Office Cavan, funded by the Department of Environment, Climate, Communications, transforming how they provide goods and services online, making it easier to buy from them than ever before.
