Status yellow rainfall warning remains for Cavan

A Status Yellow rainfall warning remains in place for Cavan this morning.

It extends to Connacht, Donegal, Clare and Kerry.

The weather warning, which came into effect at 2pm yesterday, will remain in place until 2pm today (Tuesday).

Met Éireann is warning that heavy rain may cause some river and localised flooding.

The latest weather update, issued at 6am this morning, says rain this morning will be heavy at times, with an ongoing risk of surface and river flooding. Rain will spread eastwards through the afternoon, followed by scattered showers. A mild morning with temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees but becoming colder as the rain clears with temperatures falling to between 4 and 6 degrees.

Dry in many areas tonight with clear spells and scattered showers near western coasts. It will be cold with lowest temperatures of 1 to 4 degrees, with frost developing. Some mist and fog will also form in a light southwest to west breeze.

Frost, mist and fog will clear through tomorrow morning leaving a largely dry day with isolated showers and long spells of sunshine. Cool and crisp with highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees in a light westerly breeze.

The national outlook over the next few days is for quite cold for the end of the week and into the weekend but a good deal of dry and calm weather ahead.

Wednesday night: Cold, clear and mainly dry with mist and fog patches forming in a light northwest breeze. Widespread frost will develop with lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees.

It should continue mostly dry on Thursday with mist and fog lingering in places through the day. However, long spells of sunshine will develop in places also. Quite cool with highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in light variable breezes.

Thursday night is promised another mainly dry but cold and frosty night. Dense fog will develop in places in near calm conditions. Lowest temperatures generally of -2 to +3 degrees.

A cold day is forecast for Friday with frost and fog lingering in the morning. However, it will remain largely dry apart from showers in the northwest, with sunny spells developing through the day. Temperatures generally reaching just 3 to 6 degrees with light easterly or variable breezes.

Continuing cold on Friday night with lowest temperatures of -3 to +1 degrees. Mainly dry with clear spells but isolated showers will develop overnight.

Saturday is give for a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers. A cold start to the day will give way to slightly milder conditions from the south with highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in a light easterly breeze.

Current indications are that it will remain slightly colder than normal for Sunday and into next week with some further frosts possible. Continuing largely dry also with scattered showers.
