Lacken seeks to end mental health stigma
Lacken Celtic is encouraging club members and people in the wider community to purchase and wear a green ribbon to raise awareness of mental health issues.
Organised by the Healthy Club Committee, the See Change - Green Ribbon Campaign aims to get as many people as possible talking about mental health to help end stigma and discrimination. By wearing the green ribbon – an international symbol for mental health awareness – you show you are committed to influencing positive change.
A spokesperson for Lacken Celtic said players and coaches from all codes in the club are on board with the campaign. "We are encouraging our community to get involved by wearing a green ribbon. If you would like a ribbon, please contact a member of our Healthy Club and we would love to see your photos of you wearing them especially when walking or running within the community," he said.
The Green Ribbon campaign emphasises: 'You don’t need to be an expert to start talking about mental health or have all the answers. Sometimes the most helpful thing you can do is to let someone know you are there for them and simply listen. Let people know you are open to having a conversation by wearing the green ribbon.'
See Change is an Irish organisation dedicated to ending mental health stigma. Its work is informed by people with lived experiences of mental health difficulties, who are best placed to give insight into mental health stigma.
