Work on St Bricin’s roof to begin within weeks
The serious situation of a leaking roof at St Bricin’s College in Belturbet was highlighted at the recent CMETB board meeting by local independent councillor Brendan Fay.
He told board members at last week’s meeting in the Garage Theatre in Monaghan that the roof is still leaking and students are back in the college.
Cllr Fay claimed that money had been allocated three times for this project but it appears to have slipped down the pecking order each time. He warned that the roof is close to falling down.
Cllr Fay said, on a day when they were talking about money for schools and €95,000 is being spent elsewhere in one instance, he felt it was an opportune time to raise the roof saga.
“I am starting to get the feeling that the Department of Education does not want to fix the roof in Belturbet. I would like to ask the chief executive, John Kearney: is anything going to happen in relation to this at all?”
Responding, Mr Kearney said a final figure had been agreed for that project and it has gone out to tender for the commission of works.
He informed Cllr Fay that he expected the works to commence within two to three weeks.
