Tributes at passing of Irish Country star

Rose McConnon from Carrickmacross described as 'A true lady of love and giving'

Tributes have been paid following Monaghan Irish Country music star Rose McConnon.

Ms McConnon (née Yorke) of Shanco, Corduff, Carrickmacross, died peacefully at The Mater Hospital in Dublin on Tuesday last, August 25.

A singing and song-writing star in her own right, Ms McConnon was as equally well known on the Irish County Music scene for her many collaborations and duets, having worked in the past with the likes of Nathan Carter and more recently, Tom McBride Jr, son of the late 'Big Tom'.

Rita Shah, head of the Shabra Charity Foundation, paid tribute to the passing of a “dear friend” who she said had contributed her time and music in support of the local organisation.

“She organised a country music late 2019 and donated the proceeds to Shabra Charity Foundation.

Her kindness and her personality reflected her as 'A true lady of love and giving' and her contribution to Shabra Charity and the Ebidiyan song which she wrote and sang at the Cheltenham Preview Night with Oliver are remembered at this sad time,” said Ms Shah, who signed off: “Missed by All”.

Fellow performer and Irish Country Music presenter Malcolm McDowell also expressed sadness at the news of Ms McConnon's passing.

“We had such a memorable and emotional night of music and friendship paying tribute to Rose last November. It was a full house and surrounded by all her close friends.

Rose fought a very hard battle with cancer for the last few years but never complained. Instead she wanted to make the most of the time she had left.”

He added: “My thoughts and prayers are with all the family circle at this very moment time x”.

Ms McConnon's is survived by husband Patsy and daughter Jane, son-in-law Rory, grandchild Adam, sister Mary Ashfield, partner Billy, nephews, relatives, neighbours and her many friends.

A funeral cortège will arrive on Friday at St. Michael’s Church, Corduff, for Requiem Mass at 12 noon, which will be celebrated in the presence of her family and close friends, in accordance with current guidelines.

Burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery.
