Investigation after man found dead in South Armagh

Police in Northern Ireland discovered Mr Kirk's body shortly after 5am on Sunday, August 24 on the Blaney Road around three kilometres outside Crossmaglen.

An investigation has been launched following the death of a man found on a south Armagh road with head injuries at the weekend.

Michael 'Cooks' Kirk, aged in his 40s and originally from Inniskeen in Co Monaghan, had been living in Shercock up until recently.

He lived and worked in the Co Cavan village in a local meat factory.

Police in Northern Ireland discovered Mr Kirk's body shortly after 5am on Sunday, August 24 on the Blaney Road around three kilometres outside Crossmaglen.

Emergency services attended the scene, but Mr Kirk was pronounced dead at the scene.

Commenting on the discovery of Mr Kirk's body, PSNI Detective Inspector Michael Winters expressed his condolences to the Mr Kirk's family at this difficult time.

“We are working to establish how the man, who is aged in his forties, came to sustain his injuries. We have made a number of enquiries to date and we would appeal to anyone who has information to please get in touch,” said the Det Inspt.

As part of their ongoing investigation, police are seeking information and details of a dark-coloured car that is reported to have been at the scene at around 4.40am to contact them

“We would also encourage anyone who may have been travelling on this road between midnight and 5am to check their dash cam footage.”
