Parking charges to be reintroduced after the bank holiday
Parking charges will be re-introduced in Cavan Town, along with the two-hour parking limit, following the August Bank Holiday weekend.
The charges, which were suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, will resume from next Tuesday, August 4, commencing at 8am.
The two-hour parking time limit will also be re-introduced in Cootehill, Virginia, Ballyconnell, Belturbet, and Bailieborough. No charges will apply in these towns. Wardens will be on duty to prevent illegal parking.
Speaking ahead of the resumption of parking limits and charges, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr Sarah O’Reilly (Aontú) is calling on drivers to park responsibly and to respect and co-operate with traffic wardens.
“Our traffic wardens perform a very important task, ensuring our footpaths are clear for wheelchair users or parents with buggies, preventing misuse of disabled parking spaces, and ensuring that our ambulances and fire service have access when we need them. I would appeal to members of the public to treat our staff with the respect they deserve and to co-operate with them as they implement the parking rules, which exist for the benefit of all road users and pedestrians alike,” said Cllr O’Reilly.
Prior to the re-introduction of charges, Cavan County Council traffic wardens will continue to strictly monitor illegal parking in the town, such as cars parked on double yellow lines, on footpaths, drivers without displayed permits parked in disabled parking bays, or cars causing potential obstructions for emergency service vehicles.
