€1M Kingscourt regeneration will make ‘huge difference’

The allocation of €787,500 in funding for the Kingscourt Town Centre regeneration plan was welcomed by local councillor, Clifford Kelly.

The Fianna Fáil representative, speaking at the July monthly meeting of elected members, said he was delighted that funding was allocated for the project under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.

The fund is part of the Rural Development Investment Programme, which is funded under Project Ireland 2040.

In total the regeneration of Kingscourt town centre will cost just over €1 million, when complete with matched funding from Cavan County Council. Cllr Kelly thanked the local authority for backing the submission, and stated that the investment would “make a huge difference” to the local town.

Fine Gael’s TP O’Reilly also welcomed the investment in Kingscourt, noting the boost an earlier allocation through the same scheme had given Virginia by way of the lLbrary and Ramor Theatre revamp proposal. “As a country we have to spend our way out of this,” he said of the current crisis facing the country still dealing with restrictions around Covid-19. “We need young people to work within the guidelines and not be complacent. Everyone needs to be self aware. We’ve done good work so far, to date, but we’re not out of the woods yet and a second wave is a possibility.”

Other allocations to the region include €295,000 to Monaghan County Council for the Castleblayney Market Square Regeneration Phase 2 (total cost €380,000); €311,250 to Westmeath County Council for their Castlepollard Regeneration plan (€415,000); and €476,033 to Leitrim County Council for the Carrick on Shannon to Battlebridge Blueway (€634,711).
