Contracts have been signed for the Monaghan PEACE Campus - a multi million project in the centre of Monaghan Town.
Contracts were signed last Friday afternoon, and the proposed new four storey building encompassing a new library facility has been funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development to the tune of €1 million.
Plans for the new PEACE Campus were first unveiled around this time last year.
In total its expected that the project will cost in the region of €14.5 million to complete.
The project is also being supported by the European Union’s PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) which awarded €9.5 million to Monaghan County Council.
A much-needed shared space for the surrounding region, construction is expected to be completed in 2022.
The Campus will include a social enterprise café, a library, a recording studio, and a cultural heritage area.
Recently appointed Cathaoirleach Colm Carthy of Sinn Féin was on hand to sign the contracts for the project.
Welcoming the development, Minister for Minister of Social Protection, Community and Rural Development and the Islands, Heather Humphreys, said the facility will be a “massive asset” to the people of Monaghan and surrounding counties.
“It will deliver a community space and facility services for all ages and I am delighted to have played my part in its delivery.”
