Rain, rain, go away
As scorching weather hits mainland Europe it looks like Cavan is set for damper times. The continental heatwave is set to continue into July, but there is still no sign of it reaching Ireland. The Met Eireann's pictures show the band of cloud stretching across the county, with little let up in rainfall in until this evening.
The metrological service say it will be rather cloudy today with scattered outbreaks of showery rain, with some heavy bursts over the southern half of the country through the afternoon and evening. Becoming clearer later in the northwest with some late sunny spells there.
Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees. Winds will be mostly light northwesterly or variable in direction but fresher at times along the west coast.
Showery rain clearing eastwards early tonight. Drier and clearer weather spreading from the west to all areas overnight. Lowest temperatures 9 to 11 degrees, in a light northwest breeze.
It will be mostly dry on Thursday with sunny spells in the morning and sunshine in the afternoon. Isolated showers are possible along the east coast in the early morning, soon clearing eastwards. Afternoon temperatures of 15 or 16 degrees in the north, 17 to 19 degrees in the south and feeling warm in sunshine. Winds will be light westerly, strengthening on western coasts by evening. Cloud will thicken from the northwest later in the day with rain arriving Thursday night.
