New and up close eye-witness video and images have emerged of the lengths that members of the local community in Maghera went to in a bid to quell the raging fire which all but decimated the landscape of Bruise Hill earlier this week.

Dozens of acres of natural habitat were destroyed in a matter of hours, consumed by flames which broke out late afternoon on Tuesday last June 2.

Along with the Cavan County Fire Service effort- with firefighters from Virginia and Ballyjamesduff- attending the scene, almost a half a dozen local farmers commandeered slurry tankers and drew water which they then spread across the burning undergrowth.

A spokes for An Garda Siochana said “investigations are ongoing” with the exact cause of the fire yet to be determined.
