Services continue to monitor yesterday's hill fire

Members attached to Cavan County Fire Service are continuing to monitor an area near Maghera, scene of a dramatic blaze yesterday afternoon.

Firefighters from Virginia and Ballyjamesduff, assisted by Civil Defence with drone support, attended a large grassland fire at Bruise Hill on Tuesday evening, June 2.

The fire services battled widespread flames until midnight when the blaze was brought “under control,” according to a spokesperson for the Cavan County Fire Service.

“The fire service maintained a presence overnight to monitor the situation.”

This morning, a few small pockets of flame remained, but the spokesperson stated that at this point “there is no danger to property”.
