Work on new Killeshandra health centre to begin in early 2020

Work on the two storey Primary Care Centre in Killeshandra is due to commence in the first quarter of this year.
Deputy Brendan Smith told The Anglo-Celt that he received this confirmation from senior HSE officials in regard to the project.
The Fianna Fáil TD added that it is essential to have modern and up to date primary care facilities in Killeshandra which enhances the delivery of health services at a local level.
The news has been received with enthusiasm in the town.
“I can’t wait for the work to commence,” enthused Dr Siobhan McNamee, who currently operates from the existing health centre. The centre has “tiny” consultation rooms, and an unsuitable waiting room which offered no privacy for patients making appointments.

The battle to get a primary care centre in the lakeside town has run for approximately 20 years, but from the virtual plans the new centre look impressive. It is understood that the HSE will lease most of the building for the provision of services to the area, akin to the centre at Drumalee in Cavan.
Dr Siobhan McNamee, who has been practising in Arva-Killeshandra for the past 12 years, told the Celt: “We will lease a segment of the building, have our own Health Centre and will have our own facilities for a couple of doctors and nurses. It will be a modern facility with proper patient toilets, a shared waiting area with the HSE, better facilities all round for patients, changing area for babies – it will be patient, doctor and staff friendly.
“The HSE will lease part of the building from the developers and they will have a public health nurse and probably a physio and occupational therapy – the same as you would have in most of these new centres,” said Dr McNamee.
Car parking facilities will be provided off street at the rear of the new building and patients will access the various facilities via the back of the complex.
