Only a dozen new cases in Cavan and Monaghan, but national deaths still high

There was good news in locally in the latest COVID 19 figures with just a dozen new confirmed cases in Counties Cavan and Monaghan combined. Nationally there was more tragic news as a further 41 people diagnosed with COVID-19 in the Republic sadly passed away. The total death toll from the virus in the State stands at 571, and confirmed cases at 14,758.
Of the latest people to lose their lives  35 deaths located in the east, 2 in the north west and 4 in the west of the country. 
A breakdown of the latest figures available - Thursday, April 16, showed that there were 353 confirmed cases in Cavan - up just eight from the day before; and 170 confirmed cases in County Monaghan - inching up by just four on the previous day.  
"This week the National Public Health Emergency Team emphasised the importance of testing in interrupting the transmission of COVID-19 in community residential settings including nursing homes," said Dr. Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health. “This sector remains a priority for our focused attention and we will continue to monitor and support them through this outbreak.”
