Anglers caught breaching COVID-19 restrictions
Five anglers with addresses in Dublin, fishing at a lake in Bailieborough, and three others who had set-up camp at nearby Lough Ramor are among those detected by Gardaí in breach of COVID-19 restrictions.
At the weekend, gardaí on patrol in the Bailieborough District encountered five fisherman, all with addresses in Dublin, congregating at the town lake. They were told to leave and return to the city.
The same garda unit also stopped a car in Cootehill with two men from Carrickmacross going to visit friends. “The ongoing public health crisis is everybody’s crisis and we all need to take it seriously.”
On Thursday (April 2) last, gardaí in Virginia were forced to ask three adult males to go home. They had all travelled from their family homes in Dublin city to Lough Ramor for a camping/fishing holiday.
A Garda spokesperson said: ‘We respectfully urge everybody to adhere to the essential travel and social distancing guidelines as set out by the HSE. We all have a part to play in flattening the curve.’

It’s not just An Garda Siochana however dealing with breaches of social distancing and unnecessary journeys. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has reported that the authorities in the Fermanagh District dealt with some 59 calls.
They included nine anti-social behaviour calls, three for assault, four over concern for safety, two criminal damage incidents, one fire and three reports of suspicious activity.
‘Patrols still continue to be out and about as well as responding to reported incidents,’ the PSNI said.
