100-year-old sings 'Grace' on Birthday
Despite the continuing Coronavirus crisis going on around us, Cavan people continue to amaze with their incredible sense of community and care of loved ones near and far.
In this case, earlier today (Saturday, March 21) it was the family of Annie Brady who came together celebrate the local woman reaching a unique milestone- her 100th birthday.
The Milltown-native, now living in Tullacmongan, may be confined to her home at the present time, but that didn’t stop her loved ones from gathering on the street outside to wish her well on this very special day.
The still sprightly Centenarian even greeted her adoring family with a rendition of her favourite song’ Grace’ from the top window of her home.
One family member described Annie as a “living legend”, adding: “Unfortunately we had to keep our distance, all we wanted to do was give her a big hug on her great achievement.”
Annie had earlier received her letter congratulating her on the birth milestone from Uachtarán na héireann.
The correspondence from Michael D Higgins, which also included the traditional centenarian payment, said: ‘I have learned with great pleasure that you will celebrate on 21 March, 2020, the hundredth anniversary of your birth.
‘What a wonderful occasion for you, your extended family and friends as you reminisce and celebrate a life great in year, and I have no doubt, rich in accomplishment. I join with your family and friends in wishing you a very happy birthday.”’
The President added: ‘You have lived through remarkable times the history of Ireland and the world. You have witnessed remarkable changes, in lifestyles and technological developments, unimaginable at the time of your birth in 1920.
‘May you be surrounded today by the warmth of happy memories and secure in the knowledge that you continue to make this world a better place for all who love you. I am delighted to send my warmest person congratulations and most sincere good wishes, along with the enclosed centenarian payment,’ the Uachtarán concluded.
