Encirc launches gender Diversity Charter

Local glass container manufacturer and bottler, Encirc, has launched a new diversity charter committing to boost gender equality across the business.

The charter, signed by Encirc’s executive team, outlines progressive measures to ensure it is an attractive place to work for everyone.

Launched ahead of International Women’s Day 2020 last weekend, the guidelines include steps which eliminate unconscious bias throughout the recruitment stage, such as removing names on CVs and ensuring there are no single-gender candidate lists.

The company, located between Ballyconnell and Derrylin, is also committing to the use of gender-neutral language in all general communications and recruitment activity.

As well as this, Encirc is improving processes for current employees. For example, there will now be a minimum of three women within each crew, and the company is ensuring total reward packages for women will always be commensurate with their male peers. The company has also recently signed up to Diversity Mark NI – a scheme which guides and recognises businesses for their commitments towards inclusivity.

Encirc, part of the Vidrala group, currently employs more than 1,500 people across three European sites in Co Fermanagh, Elton, Cheshire and Corsico, Italy. The company has long championed responsible manufacturing on a social, ethical and environmental level.

Commenting on the launch, Adrian Curry, Managing Director at Encirc said: “On the back of International Women’s Day on Sunday, I am proud to share our new diversity charter. This document aims to ensure Encirc is a great place for everyone to work while attracting a wider range of people. Manufacturing has an obvious and visible issue with gender diversity, I believe it falls on companies like Encirc to lead change and help boost talent within manufacturing by championing an inclusive culture.

Created in partnership with Encirc’s Women in Manufacturing steering group and signed by the Encirc Executive, we believe these commitments will bring positive change across our business. There has never been a more important time to embrace gender diversity and equal opportunities for all, not only at Encirc, but industry as a whole.”
