Wintry showers expected to continue

Scattered wintry showers are expected to continue as temperatures across the region continue to remain low.

A Snow/Ice 'Yellow Status' warning is in place for some neighbouring counties- Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo- with showers of “hail, sleet and snow” to continue throughout Wednesday and early Thursday, leading to icy patches. “Some snow accumulations over high ground.”

Met Eireann have further warned that it will be a “cold night” countrywide, with lows ranging from minus 2 to plus 1 degrees, and frost and icy stretches.

The outlook is that most places will be dry and bright tomorrow, with sunny spells even developing. “Scattered showers will, however, continue to affect parts of the north and northwest of the country and some will be wintry. Top temperatures 5 to 8 degrees in moderate or fresh west to northwes breezes, backing southwest and easing later.”

Looking beyond today and tomorrow, the national weather service predict that Atlantic driven low pressure will “continue to dominate” the weather pattern, with unsettled conditions persisting.

“The frost and ice should clear most parts overnight with the exception of (possibly) Ulster,” say forecasters, adding: “Temperatures will be generally below average with only brief milder interludes associated with frontal systems.”
